Administration Assistants play an important role in supporting the day-to-day functions and operations of an organisation.
The role can be found across businesses of all sizes and within almost every sector, including the public, private and third sectors. This makes the skills developed through the apprenticeship highly transferable and provides learners with a strong foundation for future career progression.
Administration Assistants are responsible for completing routine administrative tasks under supervision and following established organisational procedures. Their work may include communicating with customers and colleagues, processing information, maintaining records, updating databases, supporting meetings and events, managing diaries and booking systems and producing documents.
Throughout the apprenticeship, learners will develop the practical administrative, digital and communication skills required to become an effective member of a professional team.
Learners will also develop an understanding of confidentiality, data protection, workplace security, equality and inclusion, sustainability and professional working practices.

For apprentices starting this standard from 1 August 2026, government apprenticeship funding is available to learners who are aged 16 to 24 when they begin their apprenticeship.
English and maths requirements will be assessed and supported in line with current apprenticeship funding rules.
The Level 2 Administration Assistant Apprenticeship typically takes 12 months to complete.
Throughout the programme, apprentices will combine structured training with practical workplace experience, allowing them to develop their knowledge while applying their learning directly within their day-to-day role.
The apprenticeship has a minimum requirement of 278 training hours, subject to the individual learner’s prior learning and experience.
At the end of their training, apprentices will complete an independent apprenticeship assessment designed to confirm that they can perform competently within the Administration Assistant occupation.

Learners will demonstrate how they plan, organise and complete administrative tasks using appropriate systems, processes and time management techniques while maintaining accurate records and meeting required standards.
Learners will demonstrate effective written, verbal and digital communication skills and their ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with different stakeholders.
Learners will demonstrate their understanding and application of relevant legislation, organisational policies, workplace security and risk management procedures.
Learners will demonstrate professional workplace conduct, self-reflection and continued professional development alongside an understanding of ethical, inclusive and positive working practices.

Successful completion of the Level 2 Administration Assistant Apprenticeship provides learners with a strong foundation of transferable business and administrative skills that can support progression into a wide variety of roles and sectors.
