Professional Accounting Technicians are responsible for creating, verifying and reviewing accurate and timely financial information within an organisation. They play an important role in supporting financial decision-making and ensuring that accounting activities are completed accurately and in accordance with relevant legislation, regulation and professional standards.
This occupation can be found across a wide range of sectors and organisations, from small businesses and accountancy practices to large corporations, public sector organisations and government bodies.
Throughout the apprenticeship, learners will develop a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices while building the technical, analytical and professional skills required to work effectively within a finance or accounting environment.
Professional Accounting Technicians may be responsible for preparing and analysing financial information, supporting budgeting and forecasting, maintaining financial records, completing accounting activities and communicating financial information to colleagues, clients and other stakeholders.

The Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship typically takes 18 months to complete, followed by an End-Point Assessment period.
Throughout the programme, apprentices will combine structured learning with practical workplace experience, allowing them to apply their developing accounting knowledge directly within their role.
Once the apprentice has completed their training and their employer is satisfied that they have developed the required occupational competence, they will progress to their End-Point Assessment.
The End-Point Assessment is independently carried out and provides apprentices with the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours they have developed throughout their programme.
The Professional Accounting Technician End-Point Assessment is designed to assess the apprentice’s ability to apply their technical knowledge and professional skills within realistic accounting situations.
Assessment activities evaluate both the apprentice’s technical competence and their ability to demonstrate professional judgement, communication, problem-solving and appropriate workplace behaviours.
The apprentice must successfully complete all required assessment activities to achieve their apprenticeship.
Successful completion of the Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship provides learners with a strong foundation for continued professional development within accounting, finance and related professions.
